Daiwa Express is proactively implementing initiatives related to the SDGs based on our corporate philosophy of “providing high-quality transportation services to our customers and contributing to the realization of a sustainable and prosperous society.”

We will continue to improve work efficiency and introduce the latest equipment to improve environmental issues.

As a logistics company and as a member of the international community, we will implement various initiatives to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.

Initiatives in Business

Human- and Environment-friendly Business Structure

We have reduced the weight of vehicles by introducing wide single tires for transportation trucks and eliminating spare tires.

Adaption of TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), which allows the drivers to check the tire pressure/temperature in real time at the driver’s seat.  We are also working with our shippers to increase transportation efficiency by introducing large trailer chassis.

In addition, we are working to reduce the environmental impact of transportation by actively adopting 100% synthetic oil.

Adaption of resource- and energy-conscious 3R tires

We actively use 3R tires that can be “reduced”, “reused” and “recycled”.

Implemented Michelin tires that can be retreaded by shaving the shallower treads to a specified size to extend the life of the tires, and when the treads are completely used up, a new layer of rubber can be applied and continue to be used.
This extends the life of the tires and conserves resource.

Recognizing fuel-efficient drivers

Daiwa Express has a “4Kilometer Club” system to recognize drivers who drive fuel-efficiently.

The evaluation is based on the fuel efficiency standards for each vehicle type and manufacturer, and the drivers are evaluated in order of their fuel efficiency, so that those who have improved their awareness of fuel-efficient driving can achieve results fairly.
Not only does it reduce fuel consumption, the system also helps to reduce vehicle breakdowns and carbon dioxide emissions by careful driving.

Initiatives in line with the corporate philosophy

Supporting students through scholarships

We are implementing a loan-type scholarship program for university students who find it difficult to continue their studies due to financial difficulties caused by the spread of the new coronavirus infection.
We continue to work to provide an educational environment for the students who will lead Japan in the future.

Energy conservation and clean energy

The Daiwa Express Group promotes energy conservation at all of its business sites.

  • Most of our offices use LED lighting
  • Introduced a large-scale solar power generation system on the roof of the warehouse at the Shiga Distribution Center

We will also install a solar power generation system on the roof of the new headquarters building, and focus on converting to clean energy and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

A series of environmental preservation initiatives

In order to protect the environment, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and protect food safety and agriculture, we are participating in a rice field ownership program.
This year as well, we have successfully harvested rice at Daiwa Farm, which we own. The harvested rice is sent by the president to all employees, prospective employees who will join the company next year, and other related parties.

In addition, we use “kome-kami,” recycled paper made from rice that is no longer edible, for New Year’s cards and business cards.
